What No One Told You

Ok I thought about this during literature class, and just had to write it and show it to you. It's about Hakoda's views on how things had become fifteen years after the war.

He'd never imagined any of this...

If anyone had told him he would be taken away to the fire nation, he would have answered that not without a fight

But this time he didn't fight to get off the ship.

If anyone had told him his daughter would spend her life in the main city of said Nation, he would have answered that he'd fought her way back home.

But he didn't, he just stepped aside and she remained there.

If anyone had told him he would smile at an approaching fire bender, he would have answered that only if he were dead.

But he just opened his arms welcomingly.

If anyone had told him that the Fire lord would see him and consider him like a father, he wouldn't answer to that, he'd be too busy laughing.

But he didn't laugh, just patted his shoulder and smiled at him.

If anyone had told him he'd see his daughter bearing a fire bender's baby, he'd killed the father mercilessly and slowly.

But he didn't, he just smiled and commented how big she was getting.

But then again, Hakoda, what no one told you was…

That when you visited the Fire Nation, you could barely wait because you haven't been there in the ten years your daughter has been married

And no one told you that you would allow Katara to remain there because you'd never seen a bride so happy and so in love.

And no one told you, that this fire bender coming to you has barely reached the age of four… and is your grandson.

And no one told you that you would actually become the Fire lord's father-in-law, when your daughter married that Zuko brat.

And no one told you you'd be this happy to see your daughter's family growing, and hopping for a water bender baby girl.

But no one knows what their future holds, so maybe no one should give fast answers before allowing the impossible to happen.
